Union: Non- Union Number of vacancies: 1 New or Replacement Position: New Site: 2400 Skymark Avenue, Unit #3, Mississauga, ON, L4W5K5 Department: Engineering Reports to:  Sr. Director, Product Design Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 Hours: 40 hours per week Shifts: Monday to Friday Status: Permanent Full-Time Closing Date: October 01, 2026 Position Summary The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the full product development lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through manufacturing transfer and product support. This role designs mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, develops prototypes, creates technical documentation, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, systems engineering, quality, regulatory, and product management. The incumbent supports product development for both capital equipment and disposable components, ensuring designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, compliant with regulatory requirements, and aligned with customer needs. The role also contributes to product testing, risk assessment, intellectual property documentation, process development, and continuous improvement activities to support the successful commercialization of innovative medical technologies. Duties     Create solid models, assemblies, and detailed component drawings using SolidWorks Full cycle mechanical development (design, manufacturing methods, cost, production feasibility and DFM) Work with manufacturing personnel to develop assembly procedures for mechanical/electrical assemblies Create and maintain Bills of Materials, support engineering change orders and transfer to manufacturing Work with systems developers to create product specifications that meet customer requirements and to assess the risks Assemble and test prototypes  Help maintain the PDM Implement and document components and assemblies for the capital equipment and the disposables components in collaboration with senior management, product management and regulatory management Prepare technical specifications Develop initial fixtures and processes to assemble components Analyse and write test protocols Investigate issues encountered in external testing and in clinical use Document, prepare and review IP (patent) submissions Contribute to the definition and specification of future designs Additional responsibilities as requested or required     Education:          B.ASc, B.Sc or B.Eng degree (Mechanical) or similar degree Experience: 5+ years experience in mechanical design Design experience within regulated industry / quality management system an asset Skills and Knowledge: Expert proficiency in SolidWorks, use of PDM Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis, modeling and other evaluation methods Experience with design transfer to manufacturing / production, supporting field complaints and engineering change orders Experience supporting systems integration and other functional testing an asset Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to create high quality engineering documentation Ability to execute several projects at once with limited supervision Demonstrated ability to be creative in the art of mechanical design and to apply basic laws of physics Excellent understanding of design and development processes from concept to production Strong prototyping and assembly skills What We Offer Opportunity to work at the forefront of organ transplantation innovation.
