UHN’s vision is to build A Healthier World and its only because of the talented and dedicated people who work here that we are continually bringing that vision closer to reality. www.uhn.ca Union: Non-Union Number of vacancies:  1 New or Replacement Position: Replacement  Site:  Toronto Western Hospital  Department:  Allied Health  Reports to: Allied Health Manager  Salary Range:  $43.47 to $54.34 Hours: 37.5 hours per week Shifts: 8 with variable hours  Status: Temporary Full Time (12-month contract to Jan 1, 2028, with possible extension to 18 months) Closing Date: October 9, 2026  Position Summary  Respiratory Therapists at Toronto Western Hospital provide respiratory therapy service 24/7 to patients in the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Operating Rooms, Post Anesthetic Care Rooms, Wards, outpatient clinics. As the Charge Therapist you will be responsible to supervise staff and provide leadership to ensure operational safety and continuity.  Duties  Supervising, organizing, assigning and distributing workload among assigned staff to ensure the department operates in a manner that is efficient and effective  Coaching and mentoring assigned staff to foster a positive atmosphere that supports team building, collaboration and shared learning  Performing administrative responsibilities to facilitate improving processes/procedures  Participating in professional development, teaching/educational activities, safety and quality improvement initiatives to ensure excellence in the provision of services  Managing and maintaining equipment  Overseeing equipment and supply purchases  Communicating and disseminating relevant information to team members and management personnel, in a timely and consistent manner   Observing, understanding and ensuring compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures  Adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality  Performing cross-functional responsibilities as assigned, or requested  Performing other duties related to the job classification, as required  Assisting with airway management  Responding to all cardiac and respiratory arrest, trauma  Attending intra and inter-hospital transports of critically ill patients  Administer specialty aerosolized and MDI medications  Acting as a resource for the nurses, residents and allied health personnel in respiratory/airway related care  Participating in teaching patients the use of Respiratory Therapy equipment for both hospital and home care use  Performing diagnostic tests such as bedside spirometry, oxygen saturations, blood gas analysis, administering oxygen and other medical gas therapy  Assist with bronchoscopies managing all ventilated patients according to departmental ventilation protocols  Being an integral member of the healthcare team delivering respiratory care where required throughout UHN  Completion of a Bachelor's degree in a health discipline required, Master's preferred   At minimum, completion of an Advanced Diploma from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program  Membership CRTO  At minimum, 4 years of practical and related experience  Experience in maintaining high quality practice in the clinical environment  Leadership/project management experience preferred  Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work  Ability to multi-task, exercise initiative and good judgement  Compliance with confidentiality requirements  Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills  Knowledge of UHN and/or departmental policies  Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diverse individuals/teams  Why join UHN?
