Start rate non-negotiable. Shifts: Various Shifts Between 9:00am - 5:00pm Monday-Friday, including alternating weekends & Statutory Holidays Status: Permanent Part-time Closing Date: October 15, 2026 Position Summary The Junior Clerk supports patient meal service operations within Nutrition Services by ensuring accurate and timely processing of patient diet orders, meal selections and meal service information. Responsibilities include collecting meal preferences from patients, entering and updating patient information within the Computrition system, preparing meal service reports and tickets, and supporting daily diet office operations. The Junior Clerk works collaboratively with Administrative Dietetic Technicians, Supervisors, Food Service Associates, clinical units and other members of the Nutrition Services team to support safe, efficient and patient-centred meal service delivery. The position may be scheduled at the UHN Reactivation Care Centre (RCC) based on operational requirements. Duties Collects meal preferences and menu selections from patients through bedside visitation, telephone communication and other approved methods. Enters patient menu selections accurately and within established timelines using the Computrition system. Reviews patient diet orders for accuracy and completeness and applies knowledge of therapeutic diets, texture modifications, allergies and nourishments when processing menu selections and meal service information. Updates patient diet orders, texture modifications, allergens, nourishments and other meal-related information in Computrition based on approved clinical direction. Reviews and processes patient admissions, transfers and discharges as they pertain to meal service. Communicates with nursing units and other clinical departments regarding patient diet order changes, meal requirements and meal service concerns, ensuring information is updated accurately and promptly within the system. Monitors and responds to emails, telephone calls and other communications related to patient meal service and diet office operations. Records patient requests, concerns and meal service issues and communicates them to the appropriate team member for follow-up. Prepares and distributes meal tallies, tray tickets, late meal tickets, callback tickets and other meal service reports required for patient meal production and delivery. Reviews tray tickets for accuracy and organizes them in the required trayline sequence. Prints, prepares and distributes patient menus and menu-related materials. Assists patients with menu completion and obtaining meal selections as required. Works collaboratively with Administrative Dietetic Technicians, Supervisors, Food Service Associates and other members of the Nutrition Services team to support effective meal service operations. Receives and responds to telephone calls, emails and inquiries from nursing units, admissions, clinical staff, patients and families regarding patient diet orders, meal service and menu selections. Reviews admission information and updates patient demographics, diet orders, allergies, texture modifications, nourishments and meal preferences in Computrition upon admission and throughout the patient's stay, based on approved clinical direction. Processes new admissions, transfers, discharges, room changes and diet order changes in a timely manner to support accurate meal service. Prepares, prints and distributes late tray tickets, nourishments, meal changes and other meal service documentation as required. Investigates and resolves meal service discrepancies, missing trays and diet order concerns in collaboration with nursing units and Nutrition Services staff. Maintains diet office records, reports, logs and forms required for meal service operations. Identifies opportunities to improve diet office workflows and participates in process improvement and quality initiatives. Participates in cross-training and maintains competency in Nutrition Services clerical functions at both West Park Healthcare Centre and the Reactivation Care Centre. Provides support at West Park Healthcare Centre, the Reactivation Care Centre, or both locations based on operational requirements. Assists with audits, surveys, quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects as required. Maintains accurate records and protects the confidentiality of patient information. Adheres to all organizational policies, food safety standards, infection prevention and control practices, and workplace health and safety requirements. Satisfactory work performance and attendance record. Performs other duties as assigned. High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience working with patient information, diet orders and meal service systems. Previous experience using Computrition, or a comparable food service management software system is required. Current Safe Food Handling Certification from a recognized provider required. Previous clerical experience, preferably in a healthcare, hospital or long-term care environment. Knowledge of therapeutic diets, texture modified diets, allergies, nourishments and healthcare meal service operations is required. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in data entry, menu processing and maintenance of patient information. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word and other Microsoft Office applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet established deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with patients, nursing units, clinical teams and members of the Nutrition Services department. Must be willing and able to work at both West Park Healthcare Centre and the Reactivation Care Centre (RCC) based on operational requirements.Must be willing to participate in cross-training and perform Junior Clerk duties at either location. Must be available to work alternating weekdays, alternating weekends, and statutory holidays in accordance with operational requirements and the applicable collective agreement.
