Research Associate, Family Medicine

Sinai Health

Location: Canada

Compensation: USD 42.19 – 52.76

The intersection of research, clinical primary care and medical education offers a powerful environment to drive meaningful change. As a Research Associate, Family Medicine at Sinai Health you will work directly with family physicians and Principal Investigators on research questions that come out of everyday primary care practice. You will gain experience across the entire process, from ethics submissions and participant recruitment through data collection and analysis. Grant applications, publications and conference presentations round out that experience, carrying your work beyond the clinic. This position will enable you to build project-level leadership skills without carrying the strategic burden of an entire program. Expand your capabilities as you help translate clinical challenges into better patient care. Is this you? A proactive, self-directed mindset allows you to independently identify next steps and keep projects moving forward with minimal oversight. You take the priorities set by the Research Director and/or Project Manager and translate them into concrete next steps, whether that means flagging a gap in recruiting subjects before it stalls a project or getting ahead of an upcoming grant deadline. Managing multiple timelines at once comes naturally, and you keep each one moving forward without needing constant direction. This combination of initiative and independence is central to keeping a portfolio of research projects on track. Strong collaboration skills define your ability to unite diverse professionals around a shared academic goal. From physicians and Principal Investigators to the Research Director, Project Manager, residents, research staff, biostatisticians and methodology experts, you build effective working relationships across the team, understanding each person's perspective well enough to offer research expertise that supports their goals and capabilities. Here research responsibilities and resident education are shared across the team, requiring you to read situations clearly, knowing when to offer direct guidance, when to loop in a colleague, and when an issue needs to move up to leadership. Your instinct for reading the right level of involvement is what prevents gaps and overlaps across a busy research team. Analytical thinking anchors how you navigate the inevitable turns a research project takes. Determining the right research method for a question, interpreting findings accurately, and troubleshooting a study that hits a methodological or operational snag all call on a core skill: working through a problem systematically rather than reacting to it. Working comfortably with both qualitative and quantitative data means no single type of evidence limits how you approach a challenge, and recognizing the limits of your own expertise means the right specialist gets brought in at the right time. That balance of independent problem-solving and honest self-assessment protects the integrity of the research at every stage.
